Who We Are

Riley Cleaver came into our lives in 2011 at 8 weeks old, and our lives were forever changed for the better. She was the perfect addition to our family and the best friend anybody could ask for. For 11 years, she was right there alongside us the entire way whether it was trips to the river, jeep rides, airport welcome homes, soccer games, snuggling on the couch, attending JMU tailgates, sledding in the snow, chasing her tennis ball (the true love of her life), unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning, brewery hopping, helping get the girls married and so much more. She completed our family in ways we never knew we needed, and we cherished every moment we spent with her including when she was being a little “mouthy”.

In 2022, Riley was diagnosed with cancer, and we were devastated. She had barely slowed down still enjoying many swims at the river, chasing her ball and walking multiple miles a day at the park. Despite various consultations with vets across the state, it soon became obvious it was time to say goodbye to out sweet girl earlier than we had ever expected. Losing Riley felt like losing a piece of our family, and we will forever feel that hole she left in our hearts.

Fast forward to 2024. Riley is still talked about by all of our family and friends almost daily, so we thought it was time to create something good in honor of our Riley. We are excited to launch Riley’s Rescues in hopes that we can help many local animals and the people who dedicate their time to ensure they are safe and loved as they deserve to be. If you or someone you know is aware of a local need for an animal, rescue, shelter, etc. please reach out to us as we would love to help if we are able!
